The fourth annual meeting of the Southwest Quantum Information and Technology Network, or "SQuInT" will be held Friday, March 8 through noon Sunday, March 10, 2002 in Boulder, Colorado. This meeting follows the previous meetings held at the University of New Mexico ('99 and '00) and Cal Tech ('01). Anticipated sponsors for the meeting include: NSA/ARDA, DARPA, ONR, Institute for Quantum Information (Cal Tech), LANL, and NIST.

A check-in desk will be available at the Millennium Hotel from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM on the evening of March 7.  Check-in after that can be done at NIST. Daytime sessions will be held in the auditorium of the main building of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), 325 Broadway. Oral presentations will begin at 9:00 AM, March 8, with a continental breakfast available beforehand. A poster session will be held on Friday (approximately 6:00 -7:30 PM), March 9 and a banquet on Saturday night at the Millennium Hotel (the conference hotel). (Extra banquet tickets may be purchased from conference coordinator Wendy Ortega Henderson; see below.)

ACCOMMODATIONS
Blocks of rooms have been set aside at the Millennium Hotel Boulder (see link on this page) for those who will be attending the meeting. Attendees are responsible for arranging their own room reservations and are strongly urged to do so early. Mention the NIST SQuInT meeting when making your reservations. (Rate for single/double: $93 + 9.7% tax)

Please make your lodging reservations before the cut-off date of February 8, 2002. After this date, we cannot guarantee that the space or the room rate will be available. For a list of other Boulder hotels please see our website at:
http://bouldercvb.com/lodging.html or contact Wendy Ortega Henderson at: ortegaw@boulder.nist.gov for recommendations.

PROGRAM
In addition to the regular oral sessions, we want to strongly encourage participation through poster presentations. As a preview to these poster presentations, we will include ~ 5 minute preview talks by poster presenters during the regular meeting session. To be included in the posters, please send a one-page abstract to Wayne Itano itano@boulder.nist.gov as an E-mail attachment prior to two weeks before the meeting. The format should be at least 12 point font, in PDF, PostScript, or Microsoft Word format. (If this is not possible, contact Dr. Itano.) These abstracts will be reproduced and distributed upon check-in at the meeting.

REGISTRATION
A link for registration can be found on this page. Note that due to increased security at government sites, we strongly urge all participants (particularly non-US citizens) to preregister two weeks in advance of the meeting; depending on the security concerns at the time of the meeting, on-site registration might not be available.

RECENT UPDATES
Because all of the submitted posters cannot be accommodated in the space for Friday evening's session, we will have a second poster session during the day on Saturday. These posters will be set up in a room adjacent to the NIST auditorium where the main oral talks will be presented. Athough we won't have a scheduled time slot for these posters, there should be plenty of time during coffee breaks, lunch, and after the regular session that day for the material to be presented. Also, Michael Roukes has had to cancel from the meeting due to illness. Ivan Deutsch's talk will be moved from Saturday, 11:00 AM to the place of Michael's talk, 11:30 AM, Friday. The 11:00 - 11:30 AM time slot on Saturday will be left open for an extended coffee break + posters.
