WSTS '12:
2012 Telcordia - NIST - ATIS Workshop on Synchronization
in Telecommunication Systems
The Omni Interlocken Resort, Broomfield, Colorado
March 20-22, 2012

There is a clash in the telecom timing industry as new wireless applications require phase for proper
operation while some in the industry are questioning the single reliance on GPS.
This year the WSTS workshop will have a renewed focus on GPS (and GNSS) vulnerabilities to interference.
It will also review new wireless applications that require time-of-day synchronization.
At the same time, networks need to support existing and emerging services that have a variety of sync needs:
time-of-day, frequency and phase.
This workshop will address both evolving sync requirements as well as the roll-out of new sync systems,
with how this affects network operators and equipment manufacturers.
Explore these issues at the Telcordia-NIST-ATIS Workshop on Synchronization in
Telecommunications Systems (WSTS) 2012. This 21st WSTS provides a forum for high-level discussion
and knowledge sharing with the experts on sync. We provide the groundwork
for collaboration and for the solutions that provide the ground of advanced telecom networks.
How will new needs for time-of-day play out in the face of increasing
vulnerability of GPS? How will evolving networks gain the required robust sync backbone?
Learn what is happening and have an impact on this evolution.

WSTS and its sister conference
ITSF
in Europe represent a global alliance of pre-eminent experts in synchronization for telecom and related applications.
Many of these experts act as steering group members for both conferences, as well as sit
on various standards bodies including ITU, ATIS and IETF.
Besides NIST sponsorship, this workshop is co-sponsored by Telcordia and ATIS-COAST.
