WSTS '13:
2013 Telcordia - NIST - ATIS Workshop on Synchronization
in Telecommunication Systems
Dolce Hayes Mansion, 200 Edenvale Avenue, San Jose, CA 95136. USA
April 16-18, 2013

Time for Time
Register Now, Time until WSTS is Short!
This year's workshop has many highlights:
For the first time, we are in Silicon Valley.
We have a morning of tutorials to bring us up to speed.
There is a session with operators from the US and Canada.
We have Three keynote speakers:
April 16 is Favio Bonomi, Fellow of Cisco
April 17 is John Eidson of IEEE 1588
April 18 we have Martin Nuss, CTO of Vitesse Semiconductor
Sync is the backbone of a new revolution in industry.

The synchronization of "time" across many technological systems is becoming imperative.
New standards for time synchronization are being developed in ITU, IEEE and other standards bodies.
There is a multitude of common systems needing synchronization. The system demanding the most accuracy and widespread deployment
is from mobile wireless systems. Strong synchronization is central to LTE, driven by significantly greater spectral efficiency
demands and its immutable migration to small cells. Certainly not less in importance but maybe less in publicity are E911,
and management of mixed networks having new, more stringent, requirements for time synchronization. Concurrently,
there is a greater awareness developing of the vulnerability of GPS and GNSS to external interruption and corruption.
Yet still, networks need to support existing and emerging services that have a variety of sync needs:
time, frequency and phase synchronization. This workshop will address both evolving sync requirements as well as
the roll-out of new sync systems, with how this affects network operators and equipment manufacturers.
Explore these issues at the Telcordia-NIST-ATIS Workshop on Synchronization in Telecommunications Systems (WSTS) 2013.
This 22nd WSTS provides a forum for high-level discussion and knowledge sharing with the experts on sync.
We provide the groundwork for collaboration and for the solutions that provide the ground of advanced telecom networks.
As wireless and small cells become pervasive, how can their new needs for time synchronization
be met in the face of increasing vulnerability of GPS?
What role will telecom play in backing up timing for critical infrastructure: power, finance, communications, etc?
How will evolving networks gain the required robust sync backbone? Learn what is happening and have an impact on this evolution.
Come to this interactive Workshop in San Jose California , April 16-18, 2013, the Telcordia-NIST-ATIS WSTS'13.

WSTS and its sister conference
ITSF
in Europe represent a global alliance of pre-eminent experts in synchronization for telecom and related applications.
Many of these experts act as steering group members for both conferences, as well as sit
on various standards bodies including ITU, ATIS and IETF.
Besides NIST sponsorship, this workshop is co-sponsored by Telcordia and ATIS-COAST. Corporate sponsors are Calnex, Symmetricom, and FEI Zyfer.
